Its ‘Farm Market’ time here in Central Jersey, and guests of Main Street Manor will be feasting on locally grown fruits, veggies and lots of organic goodies when they visit us! Our ‘FARM DAY’ is Thursday for me to go picking, so the veggies and fruits are abundent and FRESH, FRESH, FRESH for guests visiting over the weekend. Since this is my first ‘real’ post, I have to tell you about the great Farmers Markets that are so close to us here at the Inn. Besides the Honeybrook Organic Farm (the CSA we belong to) we are surrounded by some of the best Farm Markets in the State!
So far this year, our favorite one with the most variety is the market at Dvoor Farm . Besides the beautiful fresh picked lettuces, veggies & fruits, vendors offer locally made artisan cheeses, yogurts & butter, artisinal breads, farm fresh eggs, local honey & and lovely bouquets of fresh-picked flowers and unusual varieties of perennial plants and heirloom vegetable plants for your garden. Check out the Woods Edge Wool Alpaca Farm booth for a look at their llama and alpaca fleeces, yarns, socks, gloves, scarves, mittens, hats & shawls. Storybrook Farms offers soaps and body care items using local ingredients. The Dvoor Farmers Market runs on Sundays through November from 9am-1pm. Another neat Farmers Market is the Sergeantsville Farmers Market which takes place on Saturday mornings. Its a tiny one, but the goods are quality! I bought some whole wheat pizza dough there a few weeks ago and made a beautiful mushroom & feta cheese pizza with fresh herbs…delish!
The third mentionable ‘local’ market is the Hopewell Farmers Market which takes place at the old Hopewell Train Station on Wednesdays from 2-7pm. Get there hungry and partake of the best pizza known to New Jersey…well at least to US! ‘Nomad Pizza’ is a thin crust brick oven pizza served uniquely from an antique truck…something you will certainly not see often! The Hopewell Market sells beautiful locally grown flowers, breads, varieties of organic veggies and much more.
…We encourage you to visit one of these great markets or find one in your area. Support our Farmers…its SUMMER IN NEW JERSEY so visit a local farm, plant a vegetable garden, enjoy what we have right here, and most important…EAT LOCAL!
